This course is the first session of our Positive Handling and Physical Intervention award - a fully accredited, compliant, risk assessed and legally audited training.

Our Restraint Reduction Legal Brief on the use of Reasonable Force includes de-escalation and the theory and legal element of the use of Reasonable Force surrounding physical intervention and is presented by an Expert Witness. Topics include,

  • What is deemed as "Reasonable Force"
  • Restraint risk assessment and least restrictive practices
  • Risk assessing the searching of service users & their property
  • Last Resorts and translating guidance documents
  • Risk assessing time-out rooms & withdrawal
  • Reporting and Recording Incidents & allegations
This online option includes all the aspects of our face to face, in person Legal Briefing on the Use of Reasonable Force and covers all of the legalities surrounding physical intervention on one easy to navigate platform.

The course comprises of an introduction and 10 Lessons. Each lesson is made up of a video and an assessment of multiple choice questions, with the opportunity to add comments and questions along the way.  You must attain at least 80% on each of the assessments to allow you continue to the next category/lesson.

At the end of the course you are invited to provide feedback so that we may continue to improve our online content. 

Joining instructions advising you how the course works will be available to download once you log into the course.

You do not have to complete the course in one sitting and may log in and out and your progress will be saved. You have 90 days to complete the course, after which it will expire. 

Following this course you may wish to take our in-person Safer Holding, Handling, Essential Physical Intervention & Disengagement Skills session. This follow up session is usually delivered to those staff who may need more than the theory as they are more likley to have to physically intervene with your service users.
